By steelhead standards the flows we have now are real nice and could move some fresh fish upstream. A little rise in flows and some stain to the water makes for a willing biter with this nearly 20 pound hen steelhead. Then theres the building King numbers at the dam, fish numbers probably outpacing the creeling pressure to this point. Its unclear if these lower flows will hang on, more then likely with temps rebounding thru this mid week that flows will rebound some with a little more stain. Trout and salmon rely on alewife in particular in the open Lake waters of Lake Ontario. For now after the past weekend it looks like flows are back down some in the Oak to about med or slightly high and less stained. Spring spoon casting action for brown trout at the pier heads and lakeshore when wind and waves come together to bring that semi stained water within casting range. This latest rise in flows and continued cool down should kick off better brown trout migrations in the Oak setting up good drifting chances into November and maybe into December with reasonable weather hanging in. A good day might be a couple of hookups with a steelhead thrown in. Well be back to more seasonable temps for mid and end of week with a chance of showers Thursday. Not big numbers of steelhead but a few that likely came in on the previous higher flows we had and are a good portent to upcoming steelhead action in the more traditional February or March timeframe.
